H2FLY is the leading developer of hydrogen-electric powertrain systems for aircraft. As H2FLY prepared to conduct the world’s first piloted flight of a liquid hydrogen-powered electric aircraft, R. Agency created a strategy that turned this inaugural flight into a global news moment. The amplification of the event through earned and social media meant that not only did H2FLY dominate aviation news, but they were also recognised by TIME as one of the 200 Best Inventions of 2023.

Despite H2FLY's pioneering advancements in hydrogen-electric aviation, a significant knowledge gap exists on the technology. Furthermore, misconceptions about its viability and safety are prevalent. To address this, the strategy focused on educating a global audience on the benefits of hydrogen-powered flight and myth-busting. On flight day, we invited a small group of influential global media to attend, providing exclusive spokesperson access. Alongside this, we worked with Reuters and Bloomberg, who created video content for wires and broadcast globally. This was supported by hard-working media relations to ensure that assets and commentary landed across the world. On social media, we shared a brand film of the momentous milestone as well as pre- and post-assets documenting the journey.

Specifically, engaging industry, partners and regulators and educating consumers on the future of hydrogen, thereby cementing H2FLY's reputation as an aviation pioneer.

Results
The campaign successfully propelled H2FLY into the global spotlight. The campaign generated widespread media coverage, with over 400 articles and 500+ social media mentions across international outlets. This surge in visibility significantly boosted H2FLY's share of voice, outpacing its top competitors by 20%.
Social media engagement on this topic increased by 384%, attracting over 4,000 new followers. These impressive results culminated in H2FLY being recognised as one of TIME’s Best Inventions of 2023, solidifying its position as a leader in sustainable aviation technology.
