GPE, formerly Great Portland Estates, is the FSTE150 property development company offering sustainable office and retail spaces in London. R. Agency was brought on board to shape and execute GPE’s ESG comms strategy as the brand set about meeting its target of decarbonizing the business to become net zero by 2040, and integrating climate resilience across its spaces and business processes.
(Project Details)
Sustainable office spaces in London are in demand. In 2023, 30% of offices were given a BREEAM certification (sustainable business certification), but these spaces accounted for more than half of leasing transactions. To effectively raise awareness of GPE’s sustainable offices, R. Agency utilised its Statement of Intent, ‘The Time is Now’, and its Sustainability Spaces Brief to identify and craft case studies of its most climate-friendly buildings. Paired with thought leadership from CEO Toby Courtauld and Sustainability & Social Impact Director Janine Cole, the programme set out GPE’s intention to work ahead of the industry to increase sustainability and social impact across every part of the business.
GPE (Great Portland Estates) is the property development and investment company managing much of Central London’s retail and office spaces. Focusing on developing sustainable office spaces for the climate-conscious consumer, GPE is aiming to decarbonise its business to become net zero by 2040, and integrating climate resilience across its spaces and business process. R. Agency worked with GPE and their Sustainability & Social Impact Director to shape the brand’s ESG communications strategy.
Results
In a single year, R. Agency increased GPE’s share of voice amongst competitors by 5%. Consistent media coverage was achieved in national, sustainability, consumer, London and retail media - 60% of which featured GPE in the headline. GPE was awarded the Circular Economy Project of the Year at the Business Green Awards in 2024, and was shortlisted for Positive Climate Action Team at the IWFM Impact Awards 2024.
